Summertime, the beach and baskets just seem to go together. Don't they give you a feeling of peace and calmness... sitting back and relaxing. It does for me and wearing a bit of a basket gives me that summer feeling all the time.
I've been busy weaving bracelets in the Nantucket style of cane on cane. I look for color and patterns that make me happy. Truth be told, they all make me happy. The bracelets with wider staves or wider weavers are a bit faster to weave than the ones with narrower staves and weavers, but I like small. Except for the bangle, at the top of the photo, these bracelets are woven on an aluminum blank. The weaving is slow and relaxing. I start out weaving one pattern, then usually switch to something else, trying different things. The ends are finished with caps of cherry, poplar, maple or walnut that have been drilled to accept the bracelet and hand finished. They do get a final couple coats of lacquer or poly and waxed.
