Patriotic Version of the Tea Light Basket
2.75" diameter x 4" tall
Material:
- Spokes: 1/4" FF: cut 6 @ 8"
- Base Twining: #2 RR: cut 1 @ 36", dye if you prefer
- Weavers: 1/4" FF: cut 3 @ 12"
- Weavers: @3 RR: cut 1 @ 36", dyed
- Handle: 1/4" FO: cut 1 @ 10" or use 2 pieces of 1/4" FF
NOTE: I use flat oval because I think it looks nice, but will look great using flat flat
Let's get to weaving:
- On the center of the wrong side of the spokes, make a light pencil dot...
- Lay them all out like spokes on a wheel and pin to a board through all center points...
- With the base twining piece, twine three rows close as possible to the center...
- Upsett the spokes sharply...
- Weave 3 rows with the 1/4" FF pieces...
- With the dyed #2RR piece, twine for 2 rows... as a nice touch you could arrow twine...
- Cut off each spoke 1/4" above the last row of twining, then cut little points to make it look like a picket fence. You may want to sand the points a bit.
- Handle: taper the ends of the 1/4"FO for about an inch, then insert into the weaving at opposite spokes... this should be snug, but if you need to add a bit of glue... my favorite is Aleene's Fast Tack
- Stain if you wish...
Do you want a white basket?
Skip step 6 (for now)...
- Spray paint the basket white and let dry thoroughly
- Now follow step 6...
- Add shred or Easter grass
You are ready to hide your golden egg!
