Large Square Table Basket

  • large handle: 14" wide x 10" tall flat top D-handle
  • uprights: 3/4" FF - cut 25 @ 26"
  • locking row: 1/4" FF - cut 1 @ 70"
  • weavers: 5/8" FF - cut 4 @ 70"
  • rim row: 3/8" FF - cut 1 @ 70"
  • rims: 1/2" HR  - cut 2 @ 70"
  • rim filler: #6 RR - cut 2 @ 35"
  • lasher: 3/8" FF - 4 pieces at 70" each

Let's get to weavin':

  • sand the handle so all the inside edges are rounded over and smooth to the touch...
  • set up the basket so that it is a 13.25" x 13.25" square... the center upright will be under the handle...
  • weave a locking row, mitering at the corners... upset the uprights sharply...
  • weave in 4 rows... the weaving will be tight, so move the weaver to the inside, pack down, then bring to the outside and pack down... keep all uprights straight up!
  • soak the rims in hot water for at least 30 minutes... measure the outside circumference with a tape measure and add 5" for the outside rim and 3" for the inside... taper for a 5" overlap on both rims...
  • clip and cable tie the rims and rim filler together... this takes a bit of muscle...
  • double lash together...  straighten out the sides as it dries... you want sides to be straight up and parallel to each other...
  • stain or paint... enjoy!
